Geography Week 2007
Reduce Reuse Recycle!
Geography Week 15-19 Jan 2007
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle! That was the motto for Geography Week 2007. We had an action-packed week with an emphasis on learning about how to be more aware of our environment and of what we can do to help protect it.
Grundon, the company that recycles Bishopsgate’s waste gave an assembly and also a special presentation to Year 2 and 3. The children learnt about the different materials that can be recycled and were told about the benefits of the three Rs: reuse, reduce, recycle. Year 3 produced some amazing junk models made out of recycled rubbish and Year 2 wrote acrostic poems about GRUNDON.
The Upper 5 and Lower 6 were taken on tours of Grundon’s material recovery facility in Colnbrook, where they were shown the enormous machines, conveyer belts, magnets and filters that are used to separate the waste into one-tonne blocks of paper, cans, plastic etc for delivery to recycling factories. We were also told what our waste will eventually become… the paper ends up as corrugated cardboard packaging, the plastic becomes piping that is used under roads and aluminium cans end up as aluminium cans again!
