Language work to be covered this year includes:

Verbs:            Present, imperfect, future, perfect, pluperfect and future perfect indicative active of all verbs in the defined vocabulary; present infinitive active; imperative active; all regular conjugations (including mixed conjugations and sum)

Nouns:           Cases of nouns

                        1st, 2nd declensions

Adjectives:     Agreement of adjectives with nouns

                        1st, 2nd declensions

Pronouns:      ego, tu, nos, vos (nominative and accusative cases)

Prepositions:  Difference between those followed by the accusative and those followed by the ablative.

                        a/ab, ad, ante, circum, contra, cum, de, e/ex, in, inter,  per, post, pro, prope, propter, sine, sub, super, trans

Numbers:       Roman numerals

                        Cardinal numbers 1-30

                        Ordinal numbers 1-10

Greek Mythology to be studied includes:

The Life and Labours of Hercules

Theseus and the Minotaur (to be tied in with English curriculum)

Year 8

Revision of English Derivation from Latin roots

Language Text Book:So You Really Want To Learn Latin – Latin Prep 1 and 2

Common Entrance preparation (as Year 7 ) plus:

Verbs:                        Revision of indicative active tenses of regular verbs

                        Irregular verbs: sum, possum, eo and compounds

                        Principal parts of verbs

Nouns:           Revision of cases and 1st, 2nd declensions

                        3rd declension

Adjectives:     Revision of agreement and 1st, 2nd declensions

3rd declension; regular comparison of adjectives; irregular comparison of bonus, malus, magnus, parvus, multus

Prepositions:  Revision of all, difference between accusative and ablative prepositions

Syntax:           Agreement, apposition, complements, simple prepositions, simple adverbs, simple causal clauses, simple temporal clauses (ubi), simple direct questions, simple concessive clauses, prohibitions, reflexive pronouns

Study of past Common Entrance papers

Greek Mythology:

Those studying for Scholarships will also need to study the following:

                        Subjunctive actives and passives of regular and irregular verbs

                        Deponent verbs

Nouns:           4th and 5th declensions

Syntax:           Purpose clauses, result clauses, conditional clauses, harder temporal clauses (cum + subj.), indirect questions, indirect statements, direct and indirect commands

They will also need to revise all Classical civilisation covered since Year 6..
