Numeracy in Key Stage 1
Lots of practical, hands-on activities enable our pupils to enjoy daily maths lessons. These usually begin with oral mental sessions when pupils are developing skills in calculation strategies involving numbers from 1 – 1000, as well as their knowledge and understanding of number patterns and relationships. Maths topics in Key Stage 1 include the following:
1. Place value up to 1000 (Year 2)
2. Addition and subtraction, with and without exchange, using related vocabulary and learning to solve real life problems
3. Working with money
4. Learning multiplication tables
5. In Year 2 understanding and using division with and without remainders
6. Finding fractions of shapes and numbers
7. Working with 2-D and 3-D shapes, finding lines of symmetry and right angles.
8. Learning about measurement in length, weight, capacity and time
9. Data handling involving frequency tables, bar charts and Venn and Carroll diagrams
